How racist propaganda inspired riots in America’s biggest cities
Created by Bayeté Ross Smith, Red Summers is a collection of 360VR animated and live-action documentaries about racially motivated, domestic terrorism attacks on Black communities in the United States between 1917 and 1921.
The series examines contemporary imagery with overlaid historical images through documentary shorts, investigating the lack of legal accountability and how these events relate to the current challenges in the U.S.A. regarding social justice, racial justice, and human rights.
Utopia Lab’s contribution to the series was archival photo retouching.
